KUCHING (June 24): Sarawak is trialling vaccinating residents from Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) areas before they are released from quarantine, said Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

The Local Government and Housing Minister said the Health Department would need to analyse the pilot trial that began last night with residents from Kampung Sinar Budi, which is under EMCO.

He said before the strategy could be employed in other areas under EMCO, the department would need to address issues related to the movement of people and the management of resources.

“The State Health Department needs to do a post-mortem for the trial as there are challenges, especially if the number (of people) involved a few thousand,” he told The Borneo Post today.

In a Facebook post last night, Dr Sim shared that he was at the Batu Kawah Health Clinic to observe the vaccination of eligible Kampung Sinar Budi villagers who had registered under MySejahtera and also returned a negative result for their second Covid-19 swab test.

“Hopefully this new approach (vaccinate before release from quarantine) will reduce the repeat recurrence of cases in the same local community,” he said in the post.

Dr Sim revealed that the medical team managed to administer 358 jabs in less than four hours.

He said the trial of this potential new strategy involved vaccinators moving to recipients who were seated in the same chair throughout the vaccination process.

Dr Sim added during the trial, he personally vaccinated a 99-year-old woman in the car that she had travelled in.

The ‘one-chair’ method was first employed at the Normah Medical Specialist Centre vaccination centre.
