PAKAN (June 23): A total of 6,407 Pakan residents or 51 per cent of the 12,466 in the district who are eligible for Covid-19 vaccination have received at least their first dose of the vaccine as of Monday (June 21), said Pakan assemblyman Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom.

He said based on latest update given by Sarikei Resident Felicia Tan Ya Hua, the progress was beyond expectations with around 2,400 in the district having received their second dose.

Mawan attributed the progress to the ‘vaccinate first, register later’ approach mooted by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“According to MySejahtera records, only 3,698 eligible folk in Pakan District had registered for the vaccination, but after the adoption of the ‘vaccinate first, register later’ approach, a total of 6,047 had received at least their first dose of the vaccine as of June 21,” he said after monitoring the mobile vaccination team at Nanga Wak Health Clinic here yesterday.

Mawan called on all eligible in the district to go for vaccination and commended the Pakan District Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force for overcoming all odds to ensure the success of the National Immunisation Programme (NIP) in the district.

He personally donated a laptop and printer to the Nanga Kara Health Clinic and a laptop and three canopy tents to the Nanga Wak Health Clinic to assist with the vaccination programme.
