KUCHING (June 23): The State Disaster Fund (SDF) received a contribution of RM2 million from Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) yesterday.
In a statement, SEDC said it was the first local agency to come forward and contribute to the SDF which was set up as a joint commitment by all parties to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.
The contribution was handed over to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, during a brief ceremony at his office in Wisma Bapa Malaysia.
Representing SEDC was its chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain, who was accompanied by the agency’s general manager Abdul Hadi Abdul Kadir.
In the statement, Abdul Aziz said the contribution was in compliance with the state government’s request for the people’s support, including those in the private sector, to the fund.
Earlier on June 4, the fund received a boost after the Chief Minister’s Office announced that Sarawak’s cabinet ministers, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state assemblymen and political secretaries would contribute two months’ worth of their salaries and allowances to SDF.
“This is the time when all of us should pool our resources in working together and to fulfil our role to help our state government in the fight against the pandemic,” said Abdul Aziz in the statement.
He also revealed the amount contributed by the agency was made after consultation with its management, board members as well as its subsidiaries,
Abdul Aziz added SEDC is committed to fulfilling its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) especially in assisting the community that has been the backbone of its establishment and future growth of business endeavours which are carried out on behalf of the state government.
