Dr Annuar: 35 pct of targeted individuals in Sibu already vaccinated

SIBU (June 21): A total of 81,926 or 35 per cent out of the targeted 232,528 individuals, aged 18 years and above in Sibu Division, have been administered with at least the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine as of June 18, Sibu Division Disaster Management Committee (SDDMC) coordinator Dr Annuar Rapaee revealed.

The Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing said based on the data from the Health Department the number comprised 54,897 individuals who had received their first dose and 27,029 who had completed both doses.

“Until June 18, a total of 81,926 individuals in Sibu Division have been vaccinated with at least the first dose of the vaccine, of which 62,869 are in Sibu District, 8,740 in Selangau and 10,317 in Kanowit,” he said yesterday.

In giving a breakdown, he disclosed that out of 62,869 recipients in Sibu District, 41,155 had received their first dose and 21,714 completed both doses.

Turning to Selangau, he said out of the 8,740 recipients, 6,374 had been administered with the first dose and 2,366 had completed both doses.

As for Kanowit, out of the 10,317 persons who had been vaccinated, 7,368 received the first dose and 2,949 had completed both doses, he added.

Among other things, Dr Annuar noted that the division recorded higher daily vaccination rate this month, which surpassed the daily target.

He said on June 18, the number of vaccinations was 4,805, higher than the daily target of 4,776 for the division.

Dr Annuar added: “On Friday, Sibu Division was supplied with 25,160 doses of vaccines and next week, there will be two more shipments (coming in), namely on Tuesday and Thursday.

“We target to achieve the herd immunity for the division by the end of August.”

Earlier yesterday, he visited the preparations at the vaccination centre (PPV) at Sibu Muslim Welfare Trust Board (Lakis) hall, which will commence operation on June 23.
