KUCHING (June 18): A total of 8,395 individuals in Lundu had received the Covid-19 vaccine as of Wednesday, said Lundu District officer Gustian Durani.

They were given vaccinated at the Lundu Community Hall Covid-19 Vaccines Administration Centre (PPV), said a statement issued by the Information Department yesterday.

Among those to receive their first dose of the Sinovac vaccine were Yatai Tikiek, 73, and his wife Jikim Nylied, 71.

Yatai, who is an amputee, said he signed up voluntarily for the vaccination drive and went to the designated PPV upon receiving a call.

Jikim said she felt more protected against the virus after receiving the vaccine.

The couple from Kampung Stungkor Lama thanked the government for the immunisation programme.

Tanjung Datu assemblywoman Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu, who visited the PPV on Wednesday, said she hoped all eligible in Lundu who had not registered for vaccination would do so soon.

She thanked all those involved in Lundu to ensure that the vaccination process could be implemented smoothly.

Jamilah also called for greater efforts to encourage more people, especially those living in rural areas, to get vaccinated.

During the visit, she presented two laptops as well as food and beverages to those serving at the PPV.

The Lundu Information Department also donated drinking water for the PPV staff.
