A man in Penang was stabbed with a knife after trying to stop his friend from abusing his wife

According to Harian Metro, the incident took place around 3.45am on 14 June at an apartment building in Taman Desa Jawi.

Seberang Perai Selatan district police chief Supt Lee Chong Chern said that police received a report regarding the incident and managed to arrest the suspect, a 27-year-old man, at the scene.

Initial investigation found that prior to the incident, the victim and the suspect had a drinking session together.

They both got drunk before making noise in the suspect’s house.

The suspect’s wife told her husband to stop the commotion but he became angry and physically abusive.

Lee said, “The victim asked the suspect to stop beating his wife but he refused to do so and stabbed the victim several times in the back.”

A 50-year-old room tenant witnessed the incident and heard a scream.

Along with the suspect’s wife, the witness tried to stop the man but she was also cut by the knife and sustained injuries to her arm.

The severely injured victim asked for the witness’ help to call the ambulance.

However, when health officials arrived at the scene, they confirmed that the man had passed away.

The deceased sustained a total of seven stab wounds on his back and was pronounced dead at 7.15am.

Both the suspect’s wife and the witness were taken to Sungai Bakap Hospital to receive medical treatment.

The case is now being investigated under Section 302 for murder and police confiscated the suspect’s knife used during the incident.

Asking for help is not a sign of weakness.
