The Mocsar team and local volunteers work together to remove the log from one section in Baram River.
MIRI (June 14): The Mountain and Cave Search and Rescue (Mocsar) teamed up with local villagers to clear the logs stuck at two sections in Baram River, near Kuala Melinau, last weekend.
It is said that the logs were swept from the land during the floods that hit the northern parts of Sarawak recently.
Miri Fire and Rescue chief Supt Law Poh Kiong said the operation to remove the logs was necessary as they posed danger to those travelling along the river.
“Each log measures about 15m in length, with a diameter about the same as that of an oil drum.
“They posed as obstacles along the boat route after the water had become shallow after the floods.
“The situation was not only inconvenient for the riverine community in Mulu, especially those living in Long Iman, but also dangerous,” he said, adding that the log-removal operation involved 10 Mocsar team members and 35 local villagers.
“They successfully removed the logs from both sections in the river using the chain-block mechanism.
“Now the route is safe for travelling into and out of Mulu National Park.
“We thank the Mocsar team and the volunteers from the communities in Mulu for conducting the work party to remove the logs,” added Law.
