Datuk Kristoffer Nyuak
KUCHING (June 11): Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) potential candidate for Pelagus Datuk Kristoffer Nyuak Bajok has called upon the Ministry of Health (MOH) to carry out mandatory swab tests on all attendees at the Chief Minister’s function in Kapit on Thursday.
He said MOH must be strict and avoid double standards because the lives of people are at risk.
“We cannot compromise on that. There may have been standard operating procedures (SOP) compliance during the gathering but can we guarantee it is 100 percent effective?
“The visit by the Chief Minister (Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg) to Kapit on Thursday might have attracted big crowds, which is too dangerous,” he said in a statement today.
Kristoffer said organizing a gathering during the Movement Control Order (MCO) is not only unwise and uncalled for but certainly going against lockdown SOP.
He pointed out all VIPs may be well protected by having been vaccinated but certainly not all the people in Kapit.
“We are talking about a total lockdown to curb the progressing increase of Covid-19 and trying to achieve herd immunity but how to make it possible when large gathering of this kind is organised by Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and when not all the local people are completely vaccinated.
“Giving out food aids during this lockdown does not require a big show for publicity. It is not only against lockdown SOP but it may also cause a new cluster of infection,” he said.
Kristoffer said if they are sincere in helping the people, then there was no need for big gatherings like yesterday.
He said he had been helping the people in Pelagus without organising big gatherings for the past few months, from longhouse to longhouse, with strict SOP compliance.
“I am temporarily stopping my delivery (of assistance) to the remaining longhouses, just to comply with the lockdown SOP and for the safety of the ‘rakyat’.
“Organising big events during this time certainly defeat the purpose of MCO,” he added.
Kristoffer also called for urgent vaccination for people in Kapit.
