KOTA KINABALU (June 9): The Sabah Health Department is currently running a mobile immunisation programme for rural areas.

In an interview with RTM, Kinabatangan Health officer Dr Maini Sabait said the programme, which started two weeks ago, is part of the department’s vaccination outreach to bring Covid-19 vaccines to rural areas in Sabah where the people have difficulties accessing health services.

Next week, the programme will move further into the interior to villages such as Kampung Abai, which requires travelling by boat.

The vaccination programme will focus on high risk groups such as the elderly and those with chronic illnesses.

Dr Maini said Kinabatangan is one of the areas in Sabah with the lowest Covid-19 vaccination registration rates.

“We hope that more individuals will register for Covid-19 vaccination,” she said.

So far only 250 rural residents have been vaccinated in Kinabatangan.

The programme was also carried out in Tandek and Kota Marudu yesterday.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin launched mobile vaccination units last week to facilitate the vaccination process for villagers, indigenous people, the elderly, the disabled, and the homeless.

Muhyiddin said the programme aimed to ensure no one is left out of the Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme.
