KUCHING (June 8): Tasik Biru assemblyman Dato Henry Harry Jinep is confident that Bau district can achieve herd immunity with at least 80 per cent of its population vaccinated by end of August.

To date, he said about 43,000 of the population there have registered to be inoculated, which is about 96 per cent of its estimated 46,000 population.

“We have more or less achieved nearly 100 per cent registration for vaccination in Bau.

“We are only waiting for more vaccines to arrive. We are targetting to administer 1,000 doses of vaccine per day. As of June 3, six per cent or 489 persons have received their first dose,” he told reporters after attending the Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS 6.0) Food Aid Distribution symbolic ceremony at Kampung Haji Baki here today.

The launch of the BKSS 6.0 Food Aid Distribution symbolic ceremony was officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

When asked on how Bau has managed to achieve nearly 100 per cent registration for vaccination, Henry said it was through the collaboration among the various government agencies, community leaders and village security and development committees (JKKKs) to convince the people to sign up.

“They distributed forms to homes and in Bau town area, (they) distributed to shops. It was most effective and we managed to create awareness through communication with the people in the last three to four months,” he added.

Henry said there are five vaccination centres (PPVs) set up in the district, and all are equipped with the necessary facilities.

The five PPVs are the Fire and Rescue Department, Bau Hospital, two private clinics and Siniawan Health Clinic.
