KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) will monitor Vaccine Dispensing Centres (VDCs) in the state as well as in the Federal Territory of Labuan, to ensure stable electricity supply and avoid disturbance in dispensing vaccines.
SESB Chief Executive Officer Datuk Ir Abdul Nasser Abdul Wahid said its Distribution Control Centre (DCC) will use the flagging system on all feeders that supply power to VDCs.
“This means that if there is any activity on the feeder, the DCC will issue a warning to the area manager,” said Abdul Nasser in a press statement on Sunday.
As of now, monitoring on all Covid-19 vaccine storage locations is under control in terms of technical and operation, with a comprehensive contingency plan including a standby team and mobile generator.
Abdul Nasser also said SESB will cooperate with the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) and the Sabah Health Department to ensure the latest VDC list is extended to SESB.
“SESB also instructed its technical team in all areas and districts to inspect each VDC together with its building owner, to ensure electric load in all buildings, including internal wiring, is in good condition,” he said.
He said this in response to a power disturbance at the Penampang Cultural Centre, a Vaccine Dispensing Centre, on Saturday evening. The disturbance was caused by unplanned supply closure following repair work on a broken assembly tool set on the 11kV line.
“Repair work was necessary as the feeder had tripped on June 3 at 3.48am till 3.57am. Based on analysis, if the anomaly is not repaired immediately, greater disruption will occur,” said Abdul Nasser.
He explained that for safety purposes, power supply had to be cut at 4pm so that SESB personnel could conduct repairs which were completed by 4.51pm.
