MIRI (June 6): Six residents of Long Lamai in Bario have been tested positive for Covid-19 following the swab tests conducted on its villagers on June 3, said Miri Division Disaster Management Committee (MDDMC).
MDMMC minister-in-charge Datuk Lee Kim Shin said medical personnel were flown to the remote Penan village to conduct swab tests on the villagers after a woman, who return home to Miri after attending her mother’s funeral about two weeks ago, was tested positive for the virus.
Lee, who is also state Transport Minister, said Long Lamai, which is currently placed under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO), would be monitored by a medical team comprising eight personnel from Miri Health Office and Miri Hospital; three police personnel from Marudi district police headquarters and a staff from N.78 Mulu Service Centre, who were flown to the village this morning.
“The medical team will be setting up a quarantine and treatment centre (PKRC) and all contract tracing, swab tests and treatment will be conducted at the PKRC,” he added.
Lee, who went to check on the preparation of the flight operation at Miri Bomba Air Base earlier today, said the medical team who was flown to Long Lamai today, would be conducting another round of Covid-19 testing on the residents.
He said MDDMC has sent an enforcement team from IPD Marudi to man the roadblock at the check point before entering Long Lamai.
Lee also disclosed that a total of 186 packets of food prepared by the state Welfare Department have also been sent over to the village this morning before being distributed to the residents.
Long Lamai, which is about 10 hours’ drive from Miri city to Long Puah and another two hours by long boat from Long Puah, is the village of 110 families with 371 residents.
Also present during the inspection at the Miri Bomba AAir Base this morning were MDDMC chairman Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusuf who is also the acting Resident of Miri; Miri Health Officer Dr P Raviwharmman, acting District officer Edward Tawang and Robert James who is the commander of Miri Bomba Air Base.
