KUCHING (May 18): Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) president Voon Lee Shan has been summoned by police for questioning in connection with a video uploaded on Facebook stating the party’s mission to seek Sarawak’s independence from Malaysia.
Acting Kuching police chief Supt Merbin Lisa confirmed to The Borneo Post that Voon had been called up to assist in the investigation.
“The case is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998,” he said when contacted last night.
In a letter dated yesterday sighted by The Borneo Post, Voon is being asked to present himself at the Kuching police headquarters at Jalan Simpang Tiga tomorrow (May 19) at 11am.
According to the letter, failure to turn up for questioning would result in action being taken under Section 111(2) of the Criminal Procedure Code (Act 593).
Attempts to reach Voon for comment were unsuccessful at the time of writing.
