A 65-year-old man in Petaling Jaya was recently arrested for impersonating a police officer
According to Harian Metro, the incident took place around 9pm on Saturday, 7 May.
The man had shown up at the Petaling Jaya police station to request an interstate travel permit.
The suspect claimed that he was a ‘Datuk’ and had the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) without showing any proof of identification
Petaling Jaya district police chief ACP Mohamad Fahkrudin Abdul Hamid said that the man showed a photo of himself wearing a full uniform on his smartphone.
“The officer on duty at the time asked the suspect to present any documents that can prove that he is an ACP but he failed to do so,” he added.

The man was then detained on the spot after failing to produce any identification as a civil servant
He was remanded for further investigation under Section 170 of the Penal Code and Mohamad Fahkrudin urged the public to abide by the laws in place for interstate and interdistrict travel.
The Petaling Jaya police headquarters issued a statement regarding the incident.
