A son in Singapore is calling upon the power of social media to help his mother find her biological family
On Sunday, 4 April, Facebook user Izhar Mohamed shared that his mother, who was adopted over 50 years ago, is looking to reconnect with her birth siblings.
“Her search has been going on for a few years now. But only now we’re trying social media,” he told SAYS.
Izhar shared that his mother, Kahyati Sapuan, actually came from a Chinese family and was born Ng Siew Wah
She was adopted when she was two years old by a Malay family on 14 August 1965.
Her adoptive parents’ names are Sapuan Hj Tilkadir and Saminan Walsan, and they lived on 25-D, Farrer Road in Singapore.
However, Izhar said they have since moved to Lengkok Bahru.
The only leads they currently have of his mother’s biological family are her adoption documents
According to the documents, Kahyati’s biological parents’ names are Ng Ah Cheng and Koh Thit, who lived at 170-F, Holland Road.
Izhar said even though both of his mother’s biological and adoptive families lived in adjacent kampungs, only 10 minutes away from each other, they knew nothing else.
The only other information they have is that her biological parents used to sell vegetables.
Izhar said his mother remembers that she was not an only child, so she has been eager to meet her biological siblings
Kahyati is currently 58 years old, so Izhar is trying his luck on social media to make her wish come true.
“If any of these names sound familiar to you, please reach out to either me or my mother,” he wrote.
Izhar additionally told SAYS that he is unsure if his mother’s biological family could be in Malaysia.
