1. Stall @ SS2, Petaling Jaya
Located in front of 66 Nyonya Secrets (behind Original Penang Kayu Nasi Kandar) in Chow Yang, SS2, is a small stall run by an elderly couple who have been there for years.
Everything they make is hot and fresh off the stove, which probably explains why the treats are so delicious. The yau char kwai is especially crispy and larger than other places, while the ham chim peng is fluffy and filled with lots of red bean. The stall is pretty popular so be prepared to have to wait a bit, especially during peak hours.

2. Stall @ SS14, Subang Jaya
Having operated at Asia Cafe in the past, this stall moved to SS14 because of redevelopment in the area. You’ll find crispy yau char kwai at around RM1.20 a piece, perfect for tea time snacks over teh tarik or coffee.

3. Stall @ Wai Sek Kai, Section 17, PJ
Near the popular tong sui stall in Wai Sek Kai, Section 17 is this yau char kwai stall that sells all kinds of Chinese fried doughnuts with different fillings, such as pandan, pulut, and lotus, among others.

4. ‘Jalan Alor’ stall @ Bukit Bintang, KL
Known as the ‘Jalan Alor you tiao stall’, this seller is said to be located on the road leading to Jalan Bukit Bintang near KL Baptist Church.
Run by an elderly couple, the stall has been around since 1984, selling yau char kwai, kap chung, mah kiok, ngau lay so, and ham chin peng that customers say remain fresh and crispy even after several hours.
The stall can get busy, so be prepared to have to queue.

5. Stall @ Taipan, Subang Jaya
Subang residents say that everything is made fresh and tasty at this stall, which sells yau char kwai, ham chim peng, black bean sesame balls, and more.
It is located next to Nanking kopitiam in Taipan and is usually open on weekends, although some customers have spotted the uncle on weekdays too. One review says that it’s worth going earlier in the morning as his items often sell out by noon. The seller uses a self-service concept, grab your own plastic bag, select the items you want, then pay for them.

6. Yuen Ting Restaurant @ Taman Paramount, PJ
Head to this restaurant in Taman Paramount if you’re looking for good old fashion tea time snacks. Aside from fried pastries, you can also get tau fu fah, noodles, soya bean, and various tong sui here.

7. Restoran Kang Le U Tiao @ Cheras, KL
This restaurant in Cheras has a selection of Chinese tea time snacks like kuih, mihun, tong sui, along with the traditional fried stuff and of course, yau char kwai or you tiao.

9. Meng Kee You Tiao @ Kuchai Lama, KL
Popular among residents in the area, this stall in Happy Garden sells yau char kwai, ham chim peng, ma keok, fish balls, yam cake, bubur cha cha, and tong sui, among other tea time snacks. Everything is hot and fresh. There’s often a crowd during peak hours but the wait is said to be not too bad.

10. Yulek street market stall @ Cheras, KL
Taman Yulek’s wai sek kai is popular for tong sui, chee cheong fan, along with a stall that sells freshly-made yau char kwai, kap chung, and ham chim peng. Customers share that the ham chim peng is particularly fresh and filled with lots of red bean paste.
