Man In Shah Alam Gets Suspended From Work After Accusing Grab Rider Of Stealing His Drink

An online personality recently landed in hot water after publicly accusing a Grab delivery rider of stealing his drink

On Saturday, 13 February, the man wrote, “Hello @GrabMY, why did a rider steal my Starbucks drink? I ordered three but only received two. If he wanted me to treat him to a drink, he could have asked instead of stealing. I’ve made a report but Grab stayed quiet.”

Grab addressed the issue and explained that the order came in a sealed bag and was directly handed over by a Starbucks employee

They also explained that riders are not allowed within the premises and they have to wait outside while the order is being prepared. Grab reassured that he will be refunded and asked the man to await feedback for the report he already made.

The interaction went viral and netizens slammed the YouTuber for his tweet.

He has since deleted the tweets and taken down his Twitter profile.

One person wrote, “Bro, is this your first time ordering from Grab? Don’t simply accuse the rider of stealing, they won’t jeopardise their livelihood for no reason. Have a complaint, lodge with Grab, they have proper complaint protocols.”

Another user said, “Eh, you’re so stupid. Riders don’t have the right to open a customer’s order. They’re only assigned to deliver. Where is the irresponsibility? If they opened the seal, now that’s irresponsible. I know stupidity is free, but don’t take it all.”

“Hey, stupid. The name is rider, not rider and checker. This is a member of the privileged group that feels so entitled. The responsibilities of a rider is to pick up an order based on a number and deliver it. He couldn’t bother to check what you ordered. His salary in a day can buy him four Starbucks drinks.”

Following the controversy, the man has been suspended from his job at Bateriku.com, a business which offers battery delivery and installation services

Bateriku.com issued a statement explaining that the man is an employee currently on contract.

The statement read, “Bateriku.com would like to apologise for the behaviour of our contract staff who published rude comments regarding a Grab rider on social media recently. At Bateriku.com, we do not tolerate any indecent behaviour whether within or outside of the Bateriku.com organisation. Bateriku.com management has taken immediate action to suspend the man while investigations are carried out.”

The 32-year-old man then took to YouTube to issue a public apology

According to mStar, he said in his video, “I admit that it was my fault because I tweeted it from my own personal account. My mistake was accusing the rider of stealing my drink when he did not even do so. I apologise for that.”

“To riders who are affected, I would like to say that I am so sorry. This is purely my fault for tweeting like that. The tweet was provocative and those attacking me on social media right now, thank you. I read all your comments.”

However, checks by SAYS found that the video had been taken down.
