Policemen show the seized timber of various sizes.
BINTULU: A lorry loaded with 44 pieces of Batak wood of various sizes estimated to be worth RM11,000 was seized by the Region 5 Marine Police at around 6.30pm on Tuesday.
According to Region 5 Marine Police commanding officer ASP Ezuandi Bahadin, the seizure was made after their enforcement team had stopped a lorry at the road side along Mile 33, Bintulu-Miri Road for inspection.
“From the inspection, they found that the timber of various sizes did not have any stamping mark from the Sarawak Forest Department.
“It is believed that the timber was brought illegally without permission from the Forest Department,” he said.
A 50-year-old local man was apprehended for further investigation.
Ezuandi said the case will be investigated under Section 95(1) of the Sarawak Forest Ordinance 2015.
