Four new Covid-19 clusters in Selangor and KL

PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has detected four new Covid-19 clusters in the country over the last 24 hours.

In a statement today, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said they are the Kebun Baru and Sungai Burong clusters in Selangor; the Jalan Tun construction site cluster in Kuala Lumpur; and the Jalan Pandan cluster in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.

The Kebun Baru cluster in Kuala Langat, Selangor was detected today after targeted screenings at a factory. A total of 580 individuals have been screened, with 95 positive cases.

The Sungai Burong cluster in Kuala Selangor was detected on Dec 19 after a patient displayed severe acute respiratory infections (SARI) symptoms. A total of 167 individuals were screened, with 28 positive cases.

Noor Hisham said cases in the Jalan Tun construction site cluster in Lembah Pantai, Kuala Lumpur, were detected today following targeted construction site screenings. A total of 177 individuals were screened, with 26 positive cases.

The Jalan Pandan cluster is active in Lembah Pantai, Cheras, Kepong and Titiwangsa in Kuala Lumpur and Gombak, Petaling, Kuala Selangor and Hulu Langat in Selangor. It was detected on Dec 14 after an individual tested positive during symptomatic individual screenings. A total of 165 individuals have been screened, with 30 positive cases.

The Jalan Harapan prison cluster recorded the highest number of new cases today with 185 infections, followed by the Bina Permai construction site cluster (138) and the Kebun Baru cluster (95).

Noor Hisham said six clusters have ended: Kasir, Tomher MC, Utama, Rengas, Mampulut and Haven. There are 206 clusters still active.
