No electricity cuts due to arrears for households in peninsula and Sabah

A total of 6.94 million domestic users in the peninsula and 500,000 domestic users in Sabah are estimate to enjoy this benefit.

PUTRAJAYA: Households in the peninsula and Sabah, who have been unable to pay their electricity bills for less than six months, will not have their power supply cut.

This was announced by Energy and Natural Resources Minister Shamsul Anuar Nasarah at a press conference today.

He said the government, in collaboration with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB), had agreed that no power supply cuts will be implemented on domestic consumers with less than six months in arrears for the period Jan 1 to March 31, 2021.

“This category of consumers will be given the facility to make installments for six months from Jan 1 to June 30.

“Through this initiative, a total of 6.94 million domestic users in the peninsula and 500,000 domestic users in Sabah are estimated to be eligible to enjoy this benefit,” he said.

He added that consumers that are not eligible for this benefit could still consult with TNB and SESB to make payment in installments.

He said this initiative is an extension of the Electricity Prihatin Aid implemented on April 1, 2020.

Previously, domestic users who utilise less than RM77 or 300 kilowatts hour (kWh) of electricity a month were entitled to free electricity from April to June.
