196 new cases, two deaths in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah recorded 196 new positive Covid-19 cases, two deaths, and 266 recoveries today, said Sabah Covid-19 official spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

“According to the report of Sabah State Health Department, the number of new Covid-19 positive cases in the state today is 196, making the cumulative total to 34,478 cases. Two death cases have been recorded, one each in Tawau and Sandakan,” he said.

“Today a total of 266 Covid-19 patients have been discharged or recovered from the hospital, making the cumulative recovery total to 31,887. A total of 1,925 patients are receiving treatment, namely 609 people in the hospital and 1,316 in Covid Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

“The number of Covid-19 patients in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is 60 and 14 people require ventilators,” said Masidi, the Local Government and Housing Minister and Finance Minister II, here today.

Masidi added Kota Kinabalu recorded 63 Covid-19 positive cases, the highest number in Sabah yesterday, followed by Penampang (34), Tuaran (29), Tawau (14), Ranau (9), Putatan (8), Beaufort (8), Lahad Datu (7), Sandakan (6), Kota Belud (6), Keningau (3), Papar (3), Kalabakan (2), Pitas (2), Kudat (1) and Kinabatangan (1).

He said no cases were found in Tenom, Telupid, Semporna, Beluran, Tongod, Kunak, Kuala Penyu, Sipitang, Tambunan, Kota Marudu and Nabawan.

“There is one new cluster reported in Kota Kinabalu, namely the Estate Maju Cluster with 18 cases that bring the total cumulative to 28 cases. The cluster has been detected through close contact screening and job screening at an animal feed processing plant.

“Of the 196 Covid-19 positive cases recorded, a total of 86 cases (43.9%) were from close contact screening, 49 cases (25%) from new cluster screening and from existing cluster, 46 cases (23.4%) from symptomatic screening, 15 cases (7.7%) were from other categories.

“The total bed capacity at Covid-19 Hospital is 966 units. Meanwhile, the PKRC have 5,416 units, making it a total bed capacity of 6,382 units. The percentage of bed usage today is 30.16 percent,” he said.

According to Masidi, up to December 20, 301,327 food baskets had been distributed to the target group in Sabah.
