Selangor Umno to work with PAS for next elections

Selangor Umno leader Noh Omar said he had held discussions with PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.

PETALING JAYA: Selangor Umno has held discussions with PAS to strengthen their cooperation in preparation for the next general election, while rejecting any ties with opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim and DAP, the party’s state leader, Noh Omar, said today.

Noh Omar said that the stand was in line with the decision of the party leadership regarding the “no Anwar no DAP” policy.

“In Selangor we will continue to strengthen Muafakat Nasional (MN), while at the parliamentary level we will continue to defend Perikatan Nasional (PN),” he said, according to Sinar Harian.

He said PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang had told him at a meeting on Thursday that he is open and positive towards Umno-PAS cooperation in Selangor.

Hadi also agreed to ensure that PAS would defend the Perikatan Nasional coalition federal government, while continuing to strengthen MN.

PAS and PPBM are partners in the PN coalition, which forms the federal government with the support of MPs from Umno and other parties. Muafakat Nasional was formed by Umno and PAS, to which PPBM was later admitted as a member this year.

Jamal Yunos vies to be BN candidate

In Sekinchan, the leader of Sungai Besar Umno, Jamal Md Yunos, said he hoped to be chosen to contest as the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Sungai Besar parliamentary seat at the next general election.

In 2018, the seat was won by PPBM candidate Muslimin Yahaya, in a three-cornered contest against BN and PAS. All three parties now form the PN coalition federal government.

Jamal said the division had decided unanimously to contest the seat and oppose the PPBM candidacy. “I myself will represent BN contesting in the Sungai Besar parliamentary seat to ensure this party is not buried,” he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian.

He said the division would continue cooperation with PAS through Muafakat Nasional. However, there was no cooperation between the division and PPBM.
