672 individuals nabbed over MCO-related offences on Saturday

PETALING JAYA: The authorities arrested 672 individuals on Saturday for offences in relation to the movement control order, Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today.

Of the total, Ismail said 643 were issued compound fines while 29 people were remanded.

Among the offences were not wearing face masks, attending nightclubs, failure to register or provide materials for contact tracing, and failure to observe physical distancing.

A total of 2,368 compliance task force teams, consisting of 10,582 officers, conducted checks on supermarkets, restaurants, hawker stalls, factories, banks, government offices, as well as land, water and air transport terminals.

Ismail also said the authorities detained 83 foreigners and one smuggler under the ongoing Ops Benteng. Three vehicles were seized.

He added that 89,479 people arrived through KLIA between July 24 and Dec 19 from various countries.

A total of 532 people tested positive and were sent to hospital for treatment, while 80,563 have been allowed to return home.

A total of 8,384 people are currently undergoing mandatory quarantine.
