5 new Covid-19 clusters detected today

PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has detected five new Covid-19 clusters in the country over the last 24 hours.

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said they are the Keris Residence and Brumas clusters in Sabah, the Jalan Zuhrah construction site cluster in Selangor, the Long Panji cluster in Kelantan and Jalan Timah cluster in Johor.

The Keris Residence cluster involves the Kota Kinabalu and Tuaran districts, with the index case testing positive on Dec 12 in a screening after exhibiting symptoms. A total of 65 people related to the cluster have been screened, with 41 testing positive.

The Brumas cluster was detected in Kalabakan, with the first patient testing positive on Dec 8 after being screened on his own accord. A total of 89 people have been screened, with 16 testing positive.

The Jalan Zuhrah construction site cluster was detected in the Petaling district, with the index cases testing positive in a workplace screening. A total of 450 people have been screened, with 49 found positive.

The Long Panji cluster involves the Kota Bharu and Machang districts, with the first patient testing positive on Dec 15 in a screening after exhibiting symptoms. Some 202 people have been screened, with 11 testing positive.

Lastly, the Jalan Timah cluster involves the Johor Bahru and Kulai districts, with the index case testing positive on Dec 18 in a screening after exhibiting symptoms. A total of 238 people have been screened, with 26 found positive.

Meanwhile, three clusters officially ended today, namely the Softwood LD cluster in Sabah, Besi Demak cluster in Sarawak and Rajawali cluster in Penang.

This brings total active clusters to 199 out of the 440 cumulative number of clusters reported. Of these, 41 reported new infections today.

The clusters that reported the highest number of new cases are the Jalan Stadium construction site (167 cases), Jalan Harapan prison (96) and Tembok clusters (80).
