SDMC: Christmas celebrations only allowed on first day, gatherings limited to 20 close family members

KUCHING: Christians in Sarawak are only allowed to hold Christmas celebrations on the first day, the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) announced today.

In announcing the standard operating procedure (SOP) for Christmas Day celebration, the committee asserted that private gatherings or visits were limited to only 20 people at a time.

“It is also limited to close family members only. The SOP is available in the Unit for Other Religion (Unifor) official website,” SDMC said in its daily update statement today.

The committee also said reflexology centres and blind massage reflexology are allowed to resume their operations starting Dec 21 in accordance to the latest requirements.

Before operating, each premises must apply for written approval from the Social Welfare Department in their respective divisions and present the copies to the local authorities where the premises are operating.

The Social Welfare Department must also check to ensure the premises adhered to the stipulated guidelines.

“Operators and all the workers are required to undergo rT-PCR test before being allowed to work and the test results must come out negative and (valid) not more than three days before resuming operation. The list of works underwent the tests must also be displayed.

“The detailed guidelines can be obtained from the Sarawak Social Welfare Department official website,” SDMC said.
