KOTA KINABALU: Civil servants in Sabah are to receive a special financial aid of RM600 next month, Chief Minister Hajiji Noor said today when tabling a surplus state government budget for 2021.

Hajiji said the special financial assistance would be paid out next month and hoped that the incentive would motivate the state’s civil servants to work harder so as to increase the quality of services provided to the people.

The state budget for 2021, amounting to RM4.3 billion, an increase of 7% or RM289.54 million from this year’s budget. It is the first budget prepared by the GRS government which came to power in September.

Hajiji said Sabah is projected to collect RM4.48 billion in revenue next year, generating a surplus of RM178.7 million. “Sales tax payments on petroleum products is expected to be the largest contributor to the total revenue at RM1.25 billion or 27.9%,” he said at the Sabah state assembly.

He said the state government would focus on efforts to digitalise Sabah’s civil service for the future.

A total of 762 state civil servants or 5.26% of the 14,492 civil service personnel, had received career enhancement benefits.
