241 arrested for flouting SOPs, 202 fined

PETALING JAYA: Police arrested 241 individuals across the country yesterday for breaching movement control movement restrictions in force to control the spread of Covid-19.

Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob, in a statement, said 202 individuals arrested paid compound fines while 39 were remanded.

Among the offences were failure to prepare equipment to record customers’ details (78), not wearing face masks (77), flouting physical distancing rules (43), activities at entertainment centres (41) and others (2).

He also said police set up 125 roadblocks across the nation for border control operations.

Ismail said 51 illegal immigrants and one smuggler (tekong) were detained. Six vehicles and two boats were confiscated.

Meanwhile, Ismail said task force teams carried out 50,258 checks yesterday to monitor and enforce SOPs.

A total of 2,837 task force teams, involving 12,888 members, conducted checks at 3,566 supermarkets, 4,996 restaurants and 1,860 hawkers.

They also checked 1,179 factories, 3,557 banks, 630 government offices, 1,083 land transport terminals, 290 water transport terminals and 101 air transport terminals.

Speaking on mandatory quarantine, Ismail said 86,398 individuals arrived in Malaysia from 36 countries between July 24 and Dec 11.

He said all of them were placed at 78 hotels dan 19 public training institutes, as well as private learning institutes in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Johor, Sarawak, Kelantan, Perak, Kedah, Perlis, Terengganu, Sabah, Labuan and Melaka.

Out of that number, 12,827 are currently undergoing mandatory quarantine, 543 have been admitted to hospital for treatment and 73,028 allowed to go home.
