Traders who misuse ‘free business region’ licences in KL to be blacklisted

Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa said he is happy that the scheme allowing traders to open up business freely has been emulated by certain states.

KOTA BHARU: Traders who misuse the licence issued to them under the “wilayah bebas berniaga” or WBB (free business region) by giving it to foreigners have been issued a stern warning.

The Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa said traders found doing so would have their names blacklisted and have their licence revoked.

“Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will investigate and ensure traders do not get more than one WBB licence and that is issued only to Malaysians,” he told reporters after giving away contributions in the form of basic necessities to the Chinese community affected by the Covid-19 outbreak in Kampung Tokong, Ketereh, here today.

Annuar said DBKL had received 3,300 applications for the WBB licence until yesterday.

A total of 1,700 applications have been approved and the number of applications rejected is small and mainly for applying to operate in unauthorised areas, he said. The remaining applications are still being processed

He hoped those who have been issued with the licence will not cause inconvenience to the public and operate their business according to the stipulated SOPs.

Annuar also said he was happy that the WBB programme was also being carried out in other states.
