KUCHING (July 3): Over 1.4 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine have been administered as at yesterday, including 261,280 second dose throughout Sarawak.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said that this translated to 1.2 million recipients who have received their first dose, covering 42 per cent of the population.

“For the second dose, 261,280 or about 10 per cent of our population have completed their vaccination,” he told a press conference after visiting DUN N6 Tupong mobile outreach vaccination programme held at Dewan Serbaguna Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman, Kampung Matang Batu 10 this morning.

Aside from that, he said the state is raising its daily Covid-19 vaccination target from 50,000 to 60,000 recipients in order to hit it 80 per cent of the population target by August.

He added that in Kuching, including Bau and Lundu, 304,570 people or 52.25 per cent of the targeted population have received their first dose, and 62,367 have received the second dose.

“I think by July, we definitely we can reach more than 60 per cent and we can reach our target in August.

“We thank the rakyat for taking the vaccine as we all know, we are now concentrating on this because the fight against Covid-19 is through vaccination. And then after that, the rakyat will be protected.”

“We hope to have a normal life after this, with the new norm,” said Abang Johari.

Speaking on the programme, he said Sarawak has also initiated the mobile outreach approach bring the vaccine to the people in the rural areas, where vaccination is carried using modified buses.

He said this would enable the people to get vaccinated without needing to go anywhere.

“It is great for those who are unable to leave the house as they are physically unable to,” he said.

Aside from that, Abang Johari said, the programme has another team that goes from house to house to vaccinate patients who are recuperating at home, to ensure the target groups get the vaccination as planned.

At the same time, he thanked Tupong assemblyman Fazzruddin Abdul Rahman and the DUN N6 Tupong Mobile Outreach Vaccine Programme committee chairman Senator Zaiedi Suhaili for organising the programe this morning.

Meanwhile, Zaiedi said the one-day programme at the venue today for 1,000 recipients would be organised again for the second dose to enable the recipients to complete their doses.

The programme had previously been held at Kampung Kolong 2 and Kampung Paroh, with 1,460 and 960 recipients respectively.

“We are targeting Kampung Sagah and PPV Sungai Tengah with a total of 2,500 vaccine recipients next week,” said Zaiedi.

Similarly, Fazzruddin said the programme aims to help those who had registered with MySejahtera and also those who have not registered, to get their appointment date for the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccination.

Also present were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Local Government and Housing Minister Prof Dato Dr Sim Kui Hian, Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof and Deputy State Secretary Datu Ik Pahon.
