Wong urges Sarawakians to strictly comply with SOPs

KUCHING: Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh is calling on Sarawakians, especially those in Sibu, to strictly comply with the standard operating procedures (SOP).

He said in a statement yesterday that strict compliance was extremely crucial now as full compliance from everyone was the key to curbing the spread of Covid-19.

“Even with all the precautionary measures, this highly infectious and agile virus could arise anytime as we have experienced in the past few weeks since early January this year.

“This was proven true after the Pasai Cluster which appeared on Jan 5. Now, the virus is no longer confined to longhouses – it has permeated into all community groups in both urban and rural areas,” Wong pointed out.

He said that everyone should strive to practise social distancing and practise the 3Cs of avoiding crowded places, confined places and closed conversations.

“We must also endeavour to practise the 3Ws of wash, wear and warn. We must keep warning and urging each other that staying safe yourself is also helping others to stay safe.

“If the situation worsens, the government may impose a lockdown and that would be very detrimental for businesses and citizens,” he said.

Wong also urged health authorities to constantly and consistently carry out contact tracing and conduct large-scale screenings to effectively break the chain of infection.

He also urged the state government to expand the capacity and manpower of laboratories for Covid-19 tests as any delay in the results would worsen the spread of the virus.

“Strict and fast enforcement on the spot to ensure adherence to SOPs can also add as a deterrent or warning to others. It can just take a fraction of the population who do not adhere to SOP to ruin the efforts of the law-abiding majority, so there must be strict enforcement for total adherence to SOP,” Wong stressed.
