Woman in Miri fined RM3,500 after pleading guilty to causing mischief

MIRI (June 21): A woman was fined RM3,500 in default of two months imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court here today (June 21) after she pleaded guilty to causing mischief.

Magistrate Leona Dominic Mojiliu also ordered Winnie Kanyan, 32 from Jalan Maigold, Desa Senadin here to pay RM500 in compensation to the complainant in default of five days imprisonment.

She paid both the fine and compensation.

The accused was charged with committing mischief under Section 427 of the Penal Code by smashing the car’s front windscreen belonging to her husband after an argument over their children.

The section carries a jail term of up to two years or a fine or both, upon conviction.

The offence was committed on June 16, 2021 at around 5.50pm at a house in Jalan Jati 2A in Senadin.

In mitigation, the accused pleaded for leniency.

ASP Mary Ong prosecuted the case while the accused was unrepresented.
