Netflix’s new Ryan Murphy musical is a screen adaptation of the Broadway hit The Prom
The movie stars Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, James Corden, Andrew Rannells, Kerry Washington, Jo Ellen Pellman, Keegan-Michael Key, and Ariana DeBose.
We sat down with five of the incredible cast of The Prom to talk about their characters, their favourite musical, and a song they’d pick to dance to at their own proms. Check out our interview with them here:
Jo Ellen Pellman told us how she felt about getting her first major on-screen leading role
Diandra: “What was your first reaction when you were told you will be playing the lead?”
Jo Ellen Pellman: “I remember just walking around Brooklyn that day feeling like I have won the lottery of life.”
Kerry Washington shared her thoughts on filming The Prom and.. same, Kerry, same ;p
Kerry Washington: “I just loved everything that this was about. I loved the tone. I love that there were so many heartfelt, intimate moments.”
James Corden let us in a little on some challenges he faced while playing his character
Diandra: “What was it like playing your character?”
James Corden: “Like, this is a test on all fronts, really. I’ve never done an American accent before.”
Ariana DeBose burst out singing the chorus of Walk The Moon’s Shut Up And Dance With Me
Diandra (to everyone): If you could choose one song to dance to at your own high school prom, what song would it be?
Ariana DeBose: “There’s that song..* sings Walk The Moon’s Shut Up And Dance With Me *”
We wrapped it up by asking the cast what their favourite musicals were. Andrew Rannells said his, was one that made him really, really obsessed with musicals.
Andrew Rannells: “The musical that really, really made me obsessed with musicals was Into The Woods.”
