US Vice President Kamala Harris arrives in Singapore for official visit

SINGAPORE (Aug 22): United States Vice-President Kamala Harris arrived here in Singapore this morning, the first of two destinations in her official visit itinerary to Southeast Asia.

Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) on Aug 21 said Harris who is accompanied by senior officials from the Vice President’s Office, National Security Council and Department of State, will be in the republic until Tuesday ( Aug 24).

The ministry said during her visit, the vice president will call on President Halimah Yacob, and hold a meeting and a joint press conference with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

She will also visit Changi Naval Base where she will board the US Littoral Combat Ship USS Tulsa.

On Aug 24, MFA said Harris will deliver a policy speech and participate in a roundtable with the business community involving the republic’s Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong.

According to The Straits Times, Harris arrived on Air Force Two at about 10.50am at Paya Lebar Air Base.

She will leave Singapore for Vietnam on Tuesday afternoon, the daily said. – Bernama
