MIRI (June 22): The Sarawak Teachers Union (STU) has called for details of the 150 teachers in Sibu who have reportedly rejected Covid-19 vaccination.

Sibu Division Disaster Management Committee coordinator Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing Dr Annuar Rapaee, who made the revelation during a Facebook live session, had said the teachers were putting students at risk when school reopens.

“STU is quite surprised and hope that this is misinformation as we have been trying very hard to get all teachers in the state to be vaccinated and this is news to us,” STU president Adam Prakash Abdullah told The Borneo Post.

“STU would appreciate very much if the Sibu Division Disaster Management Committee could provide STU with the details for us to verify and act upon accordingly.”

He called on the Sibu District Education office to urgently look into the issue as it is imperative and critical for all teachers to be vaccinated for the safety of all students.

About half of the 3,800 civil servants in Sibu, including teachers, have been vaccinated.
