KOTA KINABALU: With the opening of Universiti Malaysia Sabah Kampus Antarabangsa Labuan’s (UMSKAL) drive through Covid-19 vaccination centre on Tuesday, it is hoped that more residents on the island will be inoculated.
The drive through vaccination centre serves to inoculate those receiving the second dose of the vaccine.
UMSKAL director Professor Dr Jualang Azlan Gansau said the drive through vaccination centre will remain operational until the end of the National Covid-19 Immunization Program but would also be subjected to instructions.
The drive through vaccination centre will be set up in UMSKAL grounds and is a collaboration between Labuan Health Department, Labuan Disaster Management Committee and the university, he said.
Twenty health personnel including two nurses from the campus’ clinic as well as volunteers from MyVac and local community will be assisting to ensure that the program is a success, he said.
“We will administer the second dose in order to reduce the congestion at vaccination centres which has the capacity of between 800 to 1,000 people a day,” he said.
The pre-launch of the drive through vaccination centre was officiated by Labuan Health Department director Dr Ismuni Bohari who said that the facility is the seventh on the island and the first to offer drive through service.
He added that with this facility, the target of achieving herd immunity for Labuan by October can be realised.
“Our gratitude goes to UMSKAL for their collaboration in this program,” he said.
