SPAOH (July 7): The state government is very grateful to its federal counterpart and especially to the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Khairy Jamaluddin for their continuous support by supplying sufficient Covid-19 vaccines to Sarawak, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

“We hope, because we have conveyed our requirements and they have made the commitment to deliver, they will continue to honour their commitment.

“When we can have the sufficient supplies, we can complete our vaccination programme targeted by end of August,” said Uggah, who is also Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman to the media here yesterday.

Uggah said Sarawak in its Covid-19 immunisation programme was doing vaccinations all over the state.

“We have mobile teams to reach out to people in far and difficult to access areas like in the interiors of Bario, Baram, Kapit, Belaga, Miri to name a few.

“But there are still those yet to be vaccinated. So every day we will try to reach out to them.

“Our capacity is now close to 60,000 doses daily,” he said.

He revealed as of Tuesday, 1,612,639 people in the state had been vaccinated.

“They comprise 1,254,639 (61.4 pct) who had received their first dose and 357,574 (17.5 pct) their second dose.”

He added the state was no longer talking about herd immunity.

“We just want to vaccinate all targeted 2.2 million people in the state who are eligible,” he said.

He also said since it had been reported that the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine could be given to those below 18 years of age, Sarawak would have another over 200,000 people to be vaccinated.

Uggah was met after he visited a pilot longhouse open fertigation ginger project at Rh Enteri in Samu, Paku and a pilot longhouse modern pig rearing project at Munggu Gernis in the same area.

He was accompanied by Betong member of parliament Datuk Robert Lawson Chuat and a political secretary to the chief minister Dr Richard Rapu.
