SIBU (May 19): A raid conducted the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) here yesterday saw two persons arrested and over 4kg of syabu seized.
Sibu deputy police chief Supt Collin Babat said the operation took place around 1pm at a road behind a building at Lorong Wong Nai Siong 3 here.
“We arrested a man and a woman, both aged 32, and seized from them crystalline substance – believed to be syabu – weighing 4.072kg.
“Syabu of such weight could have a street worth of RM151,236,” said Collin in a statement.
Led by NCID Sibu head ASP Bill Azman Unjar, the raid was set up in cooperation with the NCID of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), said Collin.
“Prior to the arrest, the female suspect was seen carrying two boxes as she walked towards a car, where the male suspect was waiting in the driver’s seat.”
Collin said upon inspection of the first box, police discovered two plastic packets containing the crystalline substance, weighing 1.013kg and 1.014kg, respectively.
“In the second box, there were also two plastic packets containing the crystalline substance.
“The total weight was 2.045kg in the second box,” said Collin, adding that initial investigation revealed that the boxes was sent by an individual named ‘Jenny’ via courier service in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur on May 5.
“The boxes were addressed to two different receivers,” he added.
Collin said police also confiscated the car used by the suspects.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B Dangerous Drug Act 1952.
