Three out of 3,734 new Covid cases in Sarawak under Category 5 – SDMC

KUCHING (Sept 10): Sarawak today recorded three Category 5 Covid19 cases out of today’s 3,734 cases, having lung infections and requiring ventilator support, said the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

In its daily update on the pandemic, SDMC said four cases were under Category 3 with lung disease, and only one under Category 4 with lung disease and require oxygen support.

The remaining 99.79 per cent or 3,726 cases were under Categories 1 and 2, with no to light symptoms.

Sarawak’s cumulative number of cases currently stands at 147, 764.

Meanwhile, all 40 districts in the state have recorded new cases today, with Kuching topping the list with 921 cases, followed by Serian (359) and Sibu (338).

Other districts recording three-digit cases were Bintulu (218), Samarahan (195), Simunjan (150), Miri and Mukah each recorded 148 cases, Bau (130), Sri Aman (115), Asajaya (113), Saratok (108) and Pakan (106).

Out of the total number of districts, 18 of them recorded two-digit cases – with Betong (78), Kapit (65), Subis (58), Lubok Antu (57), Tebedu (56), Sarikei (50), Limbang (41), Meradong (39), Julau and Kanowit each recorded 34 cases; Song (33), Selangau (28), Dalat (18), Belaga (17), Tanjung Manis and Matu 13 cases each; Tatau (11) and Pusa (10).

The remaining nine districts recording single-digit cases were Daro (8), Lawas (7), Beluru (6), Sebauh (3), two each in Lundu and Telang Usan, and one each in Kabong and Bukit Mabong.

Of the new cases today, 2,783 were close contacts to positive Covid-19 cases with 357 having symptoms, 208 were individuals from active clusters with 46 having symptoms, 390 were individuals with symptoms screened at health facilities, and 342 were individuals at other screenings at health facilities with 20 having symptoms.

There were also three Import A or overseas cases today, with two from individuals coming into the state from Indonesia and one from Equatorial Guinea; and eight Import B or domestic cases with five individuals coming into the state from Kuala Lumpur and three from Selangor.

On a positive note, 2,262 cases have recovered and discharged from hospitals and low-risk Covid-19 treatment and quarantine centres (PKRC) all over the state today.

The Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and Kuching PKRC reported 998 recoveries and discharged cases; Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) PKRC (329); Sibu Hospital and PKRC (186); Serian PKRC (176); Bintulu Hospital and PKRC (153); Betong PKRC (87); Sarikei Hospital and PKRC (80); Kapit Hospital and PKRC (78); Miri Hospital and PKRC (68); Sri Aman Hospital and PKRC (32); Mukah PKRC (30); Limbang Hospital and PKRC (26) and Lawas PKRC (19).

To date, Sarawak’s rate is at 74.71 per cent or 110,392 individuals out of the cumulative 147,764 cases.

Currently, 36,535 active cases were being hospitalised in the state.
