Three new Covid-19 clusters in Sarawak involving two villages, one longhouse

KUCHING (Aug 22): Three new Covid-19 clusters have been reported in Sarawak today, including one involving residents of a longhouse with a history of attending a funeral, said the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

The new clusters are the Kampung Matang Lot Cluster in Kuching, Kampung Lintang Baru Cluster in Serian and Sungai Penyarai 2 Cluster in Tatau.

According to SDMC, the Sungai Penyarai 2 Cluster in Tatau was triggered after residents of a longhouse attended a funeral at a longhouse that had been placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) at Sungai Penyarai Kakus, Tatau.

“A total of 101 people were swabbed from the cluster with 57 including the index case testing positive. A total of 44 people are still waiting for lab test results and 53 of the new cases were reported today,” said the committee in its Covid-19 daily update.

All positive patients were admitted to Bintulu Hospital and its low-risk treatment and quarantine centre (PKRC).

The Kampung Matang Lot Cluster in Kuching is a community cluster involving residents of Kampung Matang Lot.

A total of 100 people were swabbed with 21, including the index case, testing positive. Another 27 are pending lab test results and one new case was reported from the cluster today.

All positive cases were admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital and a PKRC in Kuching.

As for the Kampung Lintang Baru Cluster, which involves the residents of Kampung Lintang Baru, a total of 92 people were swabbed with 62 testing positive.

“Three of the positive cases were reported today and all positive cases were admitted to Serian Hospital and its PKRC,” said SDMC.

There are currently 119 active clusters in the state, with 19 reporting a total of 221 new cases today.

The clusters that reported new cases were Peligong Cluster, Saratok with one case; Tanjung Tuang Cluster, Samarahan (five); Mega Suai Cluster, Subis (two); Jalan Buan Cluster, Tatau (four); Jalan Pisang Raja Cluster, Bintulu (three); Lorong Cahaya Damai Cluster, Kuching (14); Bandar Riyal Cluster, Samarahan (four); Bungey 2 Cluster, Betong (19), Lubuk Bukut Cluster, Mukah (three) and Sungai Menok Cluster, Beluru (one).

Also reporting new cases were Kampung Kakeng Cluster, Serian with 17 cases; Kampung Bunga Cluster, Serian (one); Jalan Lembah Hijau Cluster, Miri (one); Jalan Akses Cluster, Sri Aman (two); Semeda Cluster, Serian (five); Long Urun Cluster, Belaga (82); Kampung Matang Lot Cluster, Kuching (one); Kampung Lintang Baru Cluster, Serian (three) and Sungai Penyarai 2 Cluster, Tatau (53).
