Sony debuted its new IMX766 sensor along with the OPPO Reno5 Pro+, which launched in China earlier this month. According to recent rumour, it appears that both companies are collaborating again to develop a new sensor, suggested to be the IMX789, exclusively for the upcoming OPPO Find X3 flagship series.
News of this co-development is shared by industry insider Digital Chat Station on Weibo, who also added that the new IMX789 sensor will be a timed exclusive for the new OPPO Find smartphones. The leakster did not provide any other information other than that, so details such as the sensor’s specifications are still kept under wraps.
That said, an earlier rumour shared by Evan Blass (aka EvLeaks) suggests that the Pro variant of the Find X3 may feature dual 50MP cameras; one for its primary while the other for its ultra-wide. However, there is a disparity between the information provided by Blass and Digital Chat Station, with the former saying that each 50MP camera is powered by a Sony IMX766 instead.
As for the Find X3 itself, the company has confirmed that it will be equipped with the newly announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 flagship chipset. The expected launch date for the new OPPO flagship is still unknown at this time.
