MIRI (July 8): Several businesses here have come together to set up a community charity campaign in response to the white flag movement.
The campaign called ‘IGTC-PARC Community Campaign’ was initiated by safety training providers for the oil and gas industry, IG Training Centre Sdn Bhd and PARC Shared Office.
It is aimed to assist families whose livelihood is badly affected by the extended movement control order (MCO) to curb the spread of Covid-19 pandemic.
Mayor Adam Yii launched the campaign at IGTC premises in Senadin yesterday.
The campaign’s chairman Joseph Kong welcomed all forms of support from the public to the campaign.
“Other than relying on government aids, it is time for everyone who lives in this city to lend a helping hand to those in need of help, regardless of who they are.
“We provide every qualified family with food and milk powder for the infants,” said Kong who is also IGTC managing director.
He added that they would implement a transparent system of food distribution and that their activities would be regularly updated on PARC Shared Office website.
Those wanting to lend a helping hand can visit their official campaign website at https://www.parc.com.my/covid-19-respond/ or contact the office at 011-10774350.
Kong added they were also keen to help people who have lost their jobs due to the MCO by identifying suitable jobs for them to tide over this difficult period.
“During the food aid distribution, we will also gather information from the recipients. We will try to assist them with temporary or new job placement.”
Malaysian Army Veteran Sarawak Association (PVTMS) Miri branch also came forward to support the campaign by delivering food and collecting feedback from the recipients.
Co-founder of the campaign Andrew Lau who is also PARC Shared Office managing director, said the campaign was not influenced by any religion, race, nationality nor political stance.
He said they would try their very best to help those in need, especially the rarely reached group.
Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin, Subis District Officer Jamalie Busri, Worlwide Offshore Services’ managing director Jimmy Ho, PVTMS Miri branch chairman Kissinger Tutong and Fastart Sbn Bhd representative Michael Lee were among those present at the launch.
