Seven Sabah localities under EMCO

KOTA KINABALU: Seven localities in Sabah will be placed under Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) from June 30 to July 13.

The EMCO will be enforced on Kg Linukaan in Kota Marudu; Kg Timbagan, Matunggong, Kg Perpaduan Gumpa and Kg Perpaduan 2 in Kudat; Sungai Balung Plantation workers housing in Tawau; Kg Durok brick factory quarters, Kg Limbawan Sayur Keningau; and Kg Pondo at Pulau Gaya.

Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun said the Health Ministry had detected a rise in Covid-19 cases in Kg Linukaan, Kota Marudu, where 11 positive cases were recorded from 47 screening tests.

Therefore, he said EMCO would be enforced in the village to ensure villagers at risk of contracting Covid-19 would remain in the locality for the Health Ministry to detect and isolate individuals who tested positive.

Masidi, who is also Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson, said three localities in Kudat, namely Kg Timbagan, Kg Perpaduan Gumpa and Kg Perpaduan 2, would be placed under EMCO as well.

He said the Health Ministry had reported 29 cases out of the 55 screening tests conducted in the three localities.

Meanwhile, he said Sungai Balung Plantation workers housing in Tawau had registered nine positive cases out of the 46 screenings carried out.

“The Health Ministry has detected an upward trend in the number of cases in the locality with high infectivity rate.”

As for the Kg Durok brick factory quarters, Kg Limbawan Sayur Keningau, he said 236 screening tests have been carried out by the Health Ministry in the locality, 31 of which were positive.

He said Kg Pondo at Pulau Gaya had recorded nine positive cases in the past week.

After conducting risk assessment with various agencies in the Movement Control Order Technical Committee and upon the advice of the Health Ministry, Masidi said the State Government had agreed to enforce EMCO on the seven localities from June 30 to July 13, in line with the decision of the Federal Government.

He also said the EMCO imposed on Grace Villa Condo, Sembulan; Kg Pengaraban, Kudat; and Kg Perpaduan, Pulau Banggi, Kudat would end at an earlier date on June 28 as the number of cases had dropped and there were no more samples pending results.
