Sarawakians looking forward to NRP Phase 2 – SUPP sec-gen

Tourism, Arts and Culture Assistant Minister Datuk Sebastian Ting.

MIRI (July 12): The continuous drop in Sarawak’s daily Covid-19 cases has left many Sarawakians looking forward to more businesses to reopen as the state prepares to move into Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) on July 14.

Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting in a statement today said that once Sarawak enters Phase 2 of the NRP, certain economic activities such as barber shop, car wash, furniture shop and also dine-in services will be allowed but subjected to strict standard operating procedures (SOP) compliance.

“According to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee’s (SDMC) infographics, as long as these mentioned businesses are not in the negative list, they will be allowed to reopen, but limited to 50 individual workforce, including operations and management.

“Reopening of more economic activities is crucial for economy recovery and to save the industries from further collapse. The gradual lifting of the restrictions will give hope and encouragement to the people to see the end of the pandemic and to be able to go about their daily lives without worry,” said Ting.

However, he added, the reopening also very much depends on the progression of the Covid-19 vaccination programme.

Currently, he lauded, the vaccination programme in the state has been progressing well.

“State health director Dato Dr Mohamed Sapian Mohame has announced on July 4 that Sarawak is targeting to get at least 80 percent of Sarawakians vaccinated by mid-August 2021.

“We hope by July 22, we will hit the 50 per cent mark of Sarawakians successfully receiving two doses of Covid-19 vaccine. We should be proud that the state’s vaccination programme is very successful when compare to other states and this is credited to our dedicated frontliners and volunteers for their time, energy and health, looking after our well-being. They are the true heroes for this past one and half years,” said Ting.

The Tourism, Arts and Culture Assistant Minister said, the success should also be credited to all Sarawakians working together and united, in the battle against the pandemic.

Most importantly, he added, registering for the vaccination programme is the way to fight the virus.
