Safa undergoes restructuring process

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Football Association (Safa) acting president Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin announced the appointment of Benedict Asmat and Jasnih Daya as secretary general and treasurer general of the state football body.

Benedict and Pantai Dalit assemblyman Jasnih will replace Rafie Robert and Joehari Datuk Ayub, who were only recently appointed to the posts.

Bung Moktar, who is also the Deputy Chief Minister, also named former state footballer Azman Mastar as assistant secretary general.

He went on to say that both Rafie and Joehari would be appointed into the Safa Supreme Council.
However, the rest of the supreme council members will be appointed soon.

“This is among the steps taken to restructure the administration of the state football body.

“We are also considering other options and proactive measures for the betterment of football in the state,” he said in a statement to the press after chairing Safa Supreme Council and Executive Committee meeting in Likas today.

Bung Moktar also said they would speed up the formation of the state President Cup (U-21) and Youth Cup (U-19) squads in preparation to face the 2021 campaign.

He said it will include naming of the team management, selection of coaching staff as well as footballers for both the state junior teams.

“We will do it to the best of our ability and of course the soonest the better so that we can make thorough preparation for the campaign next year,” he said.

The President Cup and Youth Cup competitions are expected to start in June, 2021.

Meanwhile, Bung Moktar said Safa restructuring process too would involve all its district afffiliates.
“I hope things will go on smoothly thus bringing positive changes to football at district and state levels,” he concluded.
