PETALING JAYA, Aug 9 — Former DAP leader Ronnie Liu has reportedly joined Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM), more than three years after ending his four-decade membership in DAP.
Free Malaysia Today reported that the former Selangor assemblyman announced the move at a press conference today alongside PBM president and Julau MP Datuk Larry Sng.
Liu had been with DAP for 41 years when he quit in June 2023, having joined the party in 1982 while still a secondary school student.
At the time, he was a DAP central executive committee member and Sungai Pelek assemblyman, and had previously indicated that he intended to leave the party before putting the decision on hold for the 15th general election.
Liu had also voiced dissatisfaction with a DAP constitutional amendment allowing elected representatives to automatically lose their membership if they went against the party line on fundamental issues, arguing that the provision was undemocratic.
He previously represented Pandamaran before returning to the Selangor state assembly as the Sungai Pelek representative in 2018.
Sng, meanwhile, previously headed PKR’s Sarawak chapter before leaving the party in February 2021 and later becoming PBM president.
