Lau receiving the compound at the Kota Sentosa police station today.
KUCHING (June 30): Police have issued a RM1,500 compound to Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) Kota Sentosa representative Datuk Lau Pang Heng for eating kolo mee on a five foot way in Kota Sentosa recently, violating the Movement Control Order (MCO) standard operating procedure (SOP).
The 70-year-old kolo mee stall owner was also issued a RM1,500 compound.
“Both individuals agreed to receive the compound at the Kota Sentosa police station at 3pm today,” said Padawan district police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan in a statement today.
He added that the compounds have to be paid within 14 days at any district health office.
A photo of Lau eating a bowl of kolo mee on a five foot way has recently been shared in social media despite his intention to promote local hawker food since the hawkers can only provide takeaways during the current MCO.
After the photo went viral, Lau issued an apology and would leave it to the police to decide if he has violated the SOP.
It was later revealed that Lau and members of his team at the time on Sunday morning, were at Kota Sentosa wet market to distribute hand sanitisers to hawkers and shoppers.
Meanwhile, when contacted, Lau said he lodged a police report against himself on June 28 for taking a bowl of kolo mee at a five foot way on the morning of June 27.
“I felt that it was wrong and cooperated with the police during their investigation. I deeply regret and apologised to everyone for unintentionally to have violated the SOP,” said Lau.
He also added that he had accepted a compound ticket of RM1,500 from the police earlier today.
“It is a lesson for me to learn and to always abide by the SOP. I like to thank the police for their professionalism in conducting the investigation,” said Lau.
He also added that he and his team will take responsibility to pay the compound for the kolo mee stall owner too.
