MIRI (May 17): The designs and blueprints for the proposed toilet facilities at Canada Hill are 90 per cent complete, said Leslie Lau, an aide to Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Sebastian Ting.

“The remaining 10 per cent is architectural calculation on costing. After that, Miri City Council (MCC) will prepare the documentation to be passed to the Resident’s Office before public bidding,” he said after inspecting the project site last week.

The much-anticipated project under Ting’s Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) funding is estimated to cost RM200,000.

It is expected to be completed this November for the convenience of hundreds of hikers who frequent Canada Hill daily.

Lau, who is a councillor with MCC, also inspected several proposed upgrading and improvement projects costing about RM1.385million, to be implemented this year as part of 34 RTP projects under Ting, who is Piasau assemblyman.

These are improvement work to existing wooden walkway at Kampung Wireless (RM200,000), upgrading basketball court at Taman Yakin (RM80,000), drain improvement at Jalan Piasau Jaya 3F (RM400,000), road upgrading at Jalan Granit, Lutong (RM125,000), road upgrading at Kampung Senadin Jaya, Lutong (RM130,000), improvement on community hall at Kampung Pasir, Lutong Phase 2 (RM150,000), and upgrading of drains at Kampung Pulau Melayu (RM100,000).
