Police remove some roadblocks to ease traffic flow

Hazani

KOTA KINABALU: Police have removed some of the roadblocks Kota Kinabalu, Putatan and Penampang to smoothen flow of motorists, especially essential service workers.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hazani Ghazali said the decision was made following observation of traffic movement over the past two weeks.

“Our observation showed that most road users were either workers or people who go out for essential matters,” he said on Monday.

“Since two weeks ago, our roadblocks have been strict and have hindered movement of road users,” he said.

“However, since this week, we will give a bit of relaxation and have lifted some of the roadblocks, especially at places that are the focus of workers in the essential services such as Kota Kinabalu, he said.

Hazani added the police would focus roadblocks on every district border and will not be lax in enforcing standard operating procedures (SOPs).

“Previously, roadblocks were also put up at sub-borders and roads from villages but we decided to do away with them as they were redundant,” he said.

Hazani said the decision had nothing to do with the state government’s instructions or some of the local authorities’ stand in relaxing SOPs such as allowing for dine-ins among others.

He explained that it was vital that the police were able to move their manpower around to better handle Covid-19 prevention and management.
