Police probe viral video of woman ranting at roadblock

The woman who was unhappy of being summoned by police created a stir in a viral video where she argued with policemen at a roadblock along Jalan Kepayan.

KOTA KINABALU: Police have begun investigating a viral video of a woman creating a stir with police at a roadblock along Jalan Kepayan here.

In the viral video, which was believed to have been taken at around 5.30pm on June 1, shows the woman, believed to be an entrepreneur and part-time model, apparently scolding a policeman at the Ops Covid roadblock after she was pulled over for an expired road tax and insurance.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hazani Ghazali when contacted on Friday, said police are investigating the case under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.

He said the deputy public prosecutor had informed them to investigate the case under Section 506 following a report lodge over the incident.

Hazani added that police will also call the woman to record her statement.

The 34-year-old woman, who was driving a Toyota Harrier, was seen ranting against a traffic policeman who ordered her to park her vehicle along the roadside at the roadblock after detecting that the road tax and insurance had expired since January this year.

In the viral video, she is seen getting angry and shouting at the policemen who were seen calm.

A police officer also asked her to leave but she continued to rant at the policeman. The policemen then issued her two traffic summonses – one for expired road tax and another for expired insurance.

A senior officer at the roadblock then ordered the woman to leave the area and asked the traffic policeman to lodge a police report.

The woman among others claimed that she was made to wait for 30 minutes and can be heard telling the policeman on the etiquette to treat a woman.

The woman was apparently irked that she had to wait for 30 minutes at the roadblock and was seen claiming to be doing social work, it was learned.

Meanwhile, when asked why police were acting on road taxes as motorists were unable to renew their road tax during the Movement Control Order period, Hazani said that the woman’s road tax had expired for six months and the insurance was also not renewed.

It was learned that since the video went viral in social media, netizens have been linking local politicians to the woman and some politicians have come out claiming it to be false to clear their names on such postings.
