Malaysians who have received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and have a vaccine certificate may soon be allowed to travel interstate as well as overseas

According to The Star, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the government is considering the matter after discussion with the National Security Council (MKN) about latest international research.

“There were earlier views that those who have been vaccinated may be protected from infection but could be a potential carrier of the virus. But now it has been found that this is not true,” he said at a Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 town hall in Kuching, Sarawak on Thursday, 1 April.

He also indicated that international travel could soon be possible for those who have been vaccinated

The Prime Minister said the government has started this discussion with several countries to allow this travel privilege.

He said a certificate would prove that an individual completed the COVID-19 vaccine, earning them a passport to travel.

“In addition, with the certificate, they are able to travel to Japan, Shanghai (China), Hong Kong, or Jakarta (Indonesia),” he said, as quoted by New Straits Times.

Muhyiddin said all this in response to a vaccination question from a town hall participant at the Borneo Convention Centre

He emphasised that this did not mean that people could now start travelling across states.

However, he encouraged members of the public to take the vaccine and not be worried about it.
